Jeremy Flies A Tribute To Nick Drake.

This was the first tribute album which Raoul Graf put together.
I was honoured to be asked to be a part of it as I had played at the first
Nick Drake tribute night at the Cat and Fiddle in Balmain. It was an amazing
night
and
the small
pub
was
completely
packed. I think by the time this record was proposed there had probably been
about three of the nights but the joy of getting together with twelve or
so friends and fellow musicians and paying homage to Nick Drake seems to
never lose it's appeal.
The album was recorded at Espresso Studio in Camperdown by
the lovely Brendan O'Brien and David Rudder. Both absolute gentlemen. The
concept
was
to get a performance to tape with little or no overdubs; to try to catch
the moment. I can hear that I am pretty nervous and I play bits of Fruit
Tree a little fast but it was a heartfelt interpretation of a song that I
often feel I can relate to. I still really enjoy playing this song occasionally live. Sometimes
someone in an audience comes up after the show or in a break and says they
have come because of the track on the Nick Drake tribute album or because
they
have
been to
a tribute night. That is always quite a charge. This album and the second one have been re-released in Britain
recently as a double album with beautiful artwork featuring photos of Nick
which any fan will recognise as out-takes from photo shoots for his album covers.
